Faith and Flavor in Every Treat

By Faith Cafe is a veteran-owned and operated pastry business committed to delivering delicious treats that meet dietary needs like gluten-free, vegan, and non-refined sugar options. Founded by Esdras Lucero, a former Army Artillery and Aviation Soldier, and his wife and pastry chef, Jessica Neri, our journey began during a time of homelessness.

Passion for Pastries

Jessica's passion for baking was reignited during a Women's Ministry cookie exchange, leading to the birth of By Faith Cafe. We stand ready with grateful hearts, believing in 'For we Walk By Faith, not sight' 2 Corinthians 5:7.

Our dessert philosophy is rooted in faith, resilience, and a deep passion for pastries. We cater to dietary needs and bring people together through the joy of delicious, locally-sourced, seasonal desserts.

The Story: Built by Faith

By Faith Cafe was born from a period of immense challenge for Jessica and Esdras Neri, including experiencing homelessness. Despite facing severe difficulties, especially in finding housing for their family of seven, they consistently prioritized their faith. Many landlords were hesitant to rent to large families or demanded prohibitive deposits. Through perseverance and unwavering faith, they eventually secured a small apartment in South Central Los Angeles.

From Prayer to Pastries

Jessica, longing for community, attended a cookie exchange at her church, Revelation Church of God in Christ. With limited resources, she prayed for a way to participate. God answered, providing just enough for her to bake her beloved oatmeal cookies. A neighbor even offered a ride to the exchange. The cookies were a hit, and soon, orders began to pour in, marking the humble beginnings of By Faith Cafe.
